I've found over the years that my laptop is just as indispensible when building a model as a good, sharp hobby knife. Besides using it for research, I've also found a couple of other uses, mainly in the printing arena.
When i have a model with a LOT of decals to apply, I use the copy function of my printer and make an extra copy of the instructions. That way I can cross off the decals as I apply them and write all over the thing and still keep the original looking decent.
Another use of the printer is scanning the instructions. You can then print all or part of them in any size. This is also useful when applying decals or if you have a tricky assembly to do. Or, if you're getting along in your years (like me), it helps the eyes.
i also print photos of the original sometimes, to have handy when I'm painting. And, finally, when I had a laser jet printer, I used it to make my own decals, which can really jazz up a model!

My home pc has been invaluable tool to me, Although sometimes there's almost too much info to sort through. When I add another kit to my stash, I'll create a folder for that paticular subject and save all the references I find in that folder. I've just recently discovered the fun of printing up my own decals. I love it. One of the greatest uses I've found for the computer is being able to share and interact with modelers all over the world through the different sites and forums. Not only have I been able to show a few tricks, but I've learned quite a bit and the confidence in my own skills has increased tremendously. With more confidence , I'm able to push the boundaries of my modeling skills and do things I never realized I knew how to do. The quality of my builds has increased . Howard
