Here's the latest pics of the reactor unit. I've completed stage 3 of painting - doing a wash to bring out the details and then highlighted some parts to make them "pop". Attachments:

I had to drop the whole idea of keeping the electronics totally self-contained within the Command Module sphere. There just wasn't enough room for the battery even after I'd ground out a lot of resin with my Dremel tool. So, I rewired everything to have the battery and switch seperate, and here's how it looks. And here's a test fit of the entire vehicle put together in one piece. Length is 30.5" I spent a couple of hours yesterday cleaning up the spine. Many of the modules were not aligned well so I used some small pieces of sheet plastic as shims, to add to the braces they were glued to, or, alternately sanded down some of the baces, as well. Now they're lined up fairly nicely If you look closely at the fuel modules along the spine, you'll see that some of them have a splotch of paint applied. That was my way of marking which modules were ok and didn't need any realignment work. Also note the High Gain Antenna assembly in the photo, which still needs a little detail work. Attachments:

Here’s a couple of shots of the Discovery, on the occasion of I put the thing together (except the antenna array) to mount it. Note the state-of-the-art mounting base (a piece of scrap wood from the house I picked up from the back yard!), necessitated by my not having crap for tools or supplies. All that’s left to do at this point is finish painting the command module and glue the antenna back on for the 3rd time. I’m doing the dark oil paint wash thing which means 3 coats of paint: the basic color, then the wash, then repaint the basic color and highlights. If/when I finish it (hopefully by the new deadline - Thanks, Herb!) I will post finished photos and maybe 1 or 2 "special effects" shots! Attachments:

Ok, it's done! I just have to take some pics and post them. Don't know if I'll have time for any fancy photography, though. I will take a shot at it if I have time. In the mean time, here's a little shading diagram for the EVA Pod hatches. I only did the port & starboard hatches because mine doesn't feature the center hatch - it's open. Attachments:

Oh, My God! My ISP has been down all evening and i didn't think it would be back up before midnight. I decided to check one more time and... it's back up. So, here's the pics..... It's done! I added a red plastic screen in front of the upper deck light for effect. I like how it looks! Attachments:
